Services

I created my first newsletter in grade school, served as editor of the high school newspaper, and wrote for several campus publications while studying English literature and journalism at the University of Minnesota. I learned how to write snappy copy under tight deadlines as an intern at WCCO-TV and Mpls.St.Paul magazine. As a staff writer and editor at Special Olympics International, I created Spirit magazine and coordinated all printed materials generated by the public affairs department. At EMC Publishing, I got paid to read and write about my favorite authors and poets, including Jane Austen, Madeleine L’Engle, and Robert Frost.

WRITING AND EDITING
You might have the best ideas in the world, but if you can’t communicate clearly and effectively you won’t connect with your readers or customers. As an editor, I am known for polishing prose until it shines. In addition to editing for consistency and style, I’m well-versed in the Chicago Manual of Style and the AP Stylebook and I’m accustomed to working with house style guides. (I’ve even created a few along the way.)

As a writer, I’m able to generate a steady stream of content and match my voice to the publication. In addition to my work in nonprofit and educational publishing, I’ve written for magazines, websites, and blogs. I started my own blog, A Mom’s Year, in 2010 and write essays, short stories, and fiction whenever I have a chance. Contact me to discuss working together on your next book or freelance writing project.

CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT
I developed, wrote, and edited standards-based curriculum and test preparation for the EMC Masterpiece Series: Literature and the Language Arts (grades 6–12). I also wrote and edited Integrated Activities for Classroom Enrichment, EMC Access Editions, and audio library guides.

As a curriculum developer, I love coming up with interesting ways to connect the reader to the text, whether it’s through creative activities that play to the reader’s strengths or by encouraging readers to look at texts, new or old, in different ways. Contact me to discuss your curriculum development needs.

WEB CONTENT DEVELOPMENT
With a corporate blog and social media presence, businesses can manage their brand online, provide improved customer experiences, and deliver educational information. I work with clients to build an attractive website, develop an editorial process, create and deliver high quality content—most often as a “ghostblogger”—and to implement effective social media strategies. Contact me to discuss your web content development needs.

I look forward to working with you!
